Germany 31st March to 3rd April (Nurburg)

Post by KermitLeFrog »

Last year I went to the Nurburgring (Nordshleife) for the opening of the German motorcycle season. Although I didn't inspect all 12000 bikes us three where the only GB plates I saw. It's a hoot. Actually riding the ring is no longer the fun it was. Too many fast cars. And, the parade lap is pointless as it's so busy it takes hours. But, the local roads and the stuff through the Mosel valley is fab.

We stay in the main hotel in the middle of Nurburg, the Tiergarten and generally eat in the Pistonklauser under the hotel. Very comfy and reasonably priced.https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Rev ... inate.html.

This is the really rather cheesy german advert. Image

Oooops. Pressed "submit" by mistake.

More detail to follow.

You really need to look at this full size

Zoom in and look for a yellow R6 pointing towards you in the middle of the pic. I'm taking the Storm this time.

I caught the ferry from Newcastle on the Thursday night, landed in Holland Friday morning and was at the ring just after lunch. Left Monday lunchtime for the overnight ferry and was back at work Tuesday morning. The guys from Kent are taking the train Friday morning. They are a very good crew, one and all.

Possibly combine it with the WW1 tour? Shall I put it on the 2017 dates? I'll co-ordinate hotel booking etc..

Not my cup of tea.
Too many idiots on bikes around who need to grow up or heal their brain damage.
Also the Eifel region is infamous for stop-and-search operations where they confiscate any illegal (= too loud) cans.

If you like to see VTR's: how about coming over for a VTR rally ?
We did that in 2014 the other way round with a dozen German RD's and had a nice trip to the UK aircooled RD club rally.
Was a fun trip and the next year some of the UK guys came over to one of the bigger German RD events.

Check out the pics here: http://www.rd350lc.de/Derby_2014

The VTR scene in Germany mostly does small events with only some 10-20 bikes, but nice people around.
Usually in a small affordable hotel, daily evening barbecue and day-trips of 200-400 km around.

One would be in the Harz mountains (near Nordhausen) on May 19.-21. 2017: http://www.vtr1000.de/forum/showthread.php?t=81136
Another one here http://www.landgasthauszurlinde.de/ on June 30. - July 02. 2016. Thread: http://www.vtr1000.de/forum/showthread.php?t=81137
