As the title, not been over there for a while, is it still a good place for some high speed rips?

Earlier in the year they were funding our UK police to enforce speeding on the Autoroutes that leave calais/Tunnel etc. Dont know if that is still the case.

Yes, it's still the case, there's Brit police around the port area, and they allegedly patrol throughout the area with the French flics.
But once you're away a few miles, there's nothing to worry about.
Mind you, I saw a French Customs set up with a few bikes near the Belgian border when I went through a few weeks back, presumably on the lookout for smuggling baccy.
But the roads are so empty, you can choose your moments and go for it when there's no-one about, once you're out of towns.

Just remember your fluoro jacket, spare bulbs and GB sticker.
And originals and copies of your doc's, reg doc, licence and MOT.
Give them copies first, if they get arsey "find" the originals.
And have some money for on-the-spot fines- it'll save you being escorted miles out of your way to the nearest cashpoint.

With a GB plate all 'could' be enforced. I drove form Germany to UK for three years and you never knew what the Belgium/French Police would do.One minute they would turn round and make another brew the next they would confiscate your fuel cans. Stay within the rules and chance the speeding tickets when you feel safe to do so.

Just came back from France last night after a long week end of "making progress" on the back roads of Normandy & Brittany.
As Timbo ponted out, if there is a static camera, it is preceded with the sign in his photo and the camera was always about 500yds after the sign but could be on either side of the road, and were rear facing, so would get your number.
Good news is you can download the positions of these static cameras into your GPS, and the warnings are clear. Bad news is my french contacts warn me that there is much lower tolerance to speeding than in the past.
Better news is that if you stay away from the autoroutes, and on the D roads, you should enjoy:
a) great biking roads
b) no static cameras
c) low traffic levels
d) Biker frendly road users [in Cars!!] who will pull over to let you through AND warn you if there is a speed trap being set up.
we only saw 1 mobile speed trap in 4 days, and we had so many cars & bikes warning us, that we were ready for it.
only down side we had was the amount of fresh gravell repairs that we found on the smaller country roads. again well signposted, so no crashes, but there was tonnes of it and that slowed the pace down on what would have been great series of bends.

No one mentioned that, but I think it would get a bit hard to prove as they would have to stop you for something else first, and then if the bike is not moving, the satnav would not be warning!

AFAIK you are right, and speed camera detection (Laser) is totally illegal, I believe they are implementing a ban on the GPS based ones too.roger wrote:hello AMC ,

We drove through France to Spain on the main toll roads, cameras pretty much all the way down. I was Flashed just after crossing the Spanish border coming into France, never saw anything through the post and would likely put it in the bin if it ever arrived.
