Adware Generic, help needed!!

Post by Jamoi »

Hiya guys, I didn't know a better place to ask this, so here goes!

My laptop has AVG antivirus free installed, it keeps popping up every few seconds with "Avg blocked several threats" etc. In the threat box it says "remove all" so I click on it and it apparently removes the threat but then it just comes up again a min later!

Image

Do I use a website like "easyremovevirus.com" or is that a fake/malicious website??

It's really fecking me off now!

If I allow the threats, I think it slows my computer down, installs tool bars, accesses private info and takes me to dodgy websites... according to a google search of "Adware Generic_r.KF"

:(

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Malwarebytes anti-malware..

Download it, run a full scan and then restart. Should remove pretty much everything :)

(It's free)

Cheers buddy

I think.... omg! I've sorted it!!

I went through my list of installed programmes, found a new one from a couple of days ago, when this threat started popping up coincidentally after using a pic resizing website... I've uninstalled a programme called "find right" and re-removed all threats with AVG and hey presto!

The fecking "ding ding" noise has gone, along with the threat blocker notification!!

Avg is now happy!!

I'm a puter whizz kid/man now :)

Also, I'd recommend Avast! over AVG personally, still free and much better I find. But I'd still install Malwarebytes if I were you, run a quick scan (takes me 15 minutes) once a week and it will pick up pretty much anything. Easily one of the best systems out there, however it's a manual system and not an anti-virus system.

I used to use all those recommended.

One of my mates works with large companies sorting out their cloud computing systems

He told me to use Microsoft essentials

Never had a problem since

I recommend a Mac running Mavericks :)
Or a paid for product if stuck with windows. You pay for what you get with AV in my opinion.
It may only be my opinion but it's mine!

Well yes I did like ML better but the tabbed finder and a few other things are nice touches

I would run that by your mate again, as understand MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) is no longer rated as being much good. I think it was up there with the best when it was first introduced, but not any more.

I too would recommend Malwarebytes for removing any nasties, and Avast for Anti-Virus,

Chris.
