Scam! Please read
Hi all i thought id share an experience that happened to me the other day. Whilst firing up my home pc just after id logged on my screen went completely blank and then stayed white for several seconds, what appeared next initially frightened the life out of me. A screen appeared claiming to be from the Metropolitan Police (met police logo in upper right corner) The text on the screen them went on to say "this computer has been locked by the Metropolitan Police as it has been used for one or more of the reasons listed. This list contained things like "this computer has been used to down load copyrighted material's" "this computer has been used to view illegal web sites" it even suggested that my computer may have been used to view "child pornography" There then followed an explanation of how my i.p address had been locked and that to un-lock my web access i had to PAY A FINE that had been imposed by the police. The total of the fine was £100. I was directed to several high street places where a "special voucher" could be purchased to the value of the fine. All this information was passed onto me by my very upset partner. Now im not as green as i am cabbage looking! and i told her not to touch the laptop and wait for me to get back. Scam scam scam is all i could think. So on my way home i called into my local Police station and enquired as to the Met's involvement in the situation. After a chat with a very helpful and knowledgeable police officer (i think every force has got one like this) he informed me this was without a doubt a money making........yes you guessed it....Scam. Iv passed the info onto the met and i am due a visit from the local force so they can look into it. Just thought id pass it on to you guys in case it was some thing that was doing the rounds nationally.

Google it. It's an old scam that's been popping up for a few years now. If you've been viewing kiddy porn I don't think the met will be asking you for £100, more likely to get your front door kicked in at 5 in the morning by several hefty officers wanting a word with you.
Rich.

fookin hell Darren, I've don't think Iv'e heard of that one either, but then I am computer savvy and don't use windblows.
So was this in your Browser or was it actually on your system? Virus alert, wooo woooo.... has your machine been compromised. If I were you I would be backing up all important data, zeroing the hard drive/drives and re-installing the operating system and apps etc etc. Give it a good clean out and start fresh with a clean system. Freaky sh1t!
Darren can I just say you post was really hard going to read. You could do with some line breaks in there mate.

These threats are usually groundless, do a virus scan, rebootcheck the cookies file for unwanted guests. Never pass on these warnings to your friends....LOL if you want to keep them : )

I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!
Re: Scam! Please read
both me and the little woman have had a couple of scam e mails recently. they were all similar, asking us to verify that payments taken from our bank accounts to various companies, natwest bank, skype and someone else i had not heard of were valid. "click on this link" to confirm etc etc.
