Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

So I think I've made some progress on the starting front. I had it running today with a combination of Easy Start and new plugs. Much better spark with the new plugs so I think I'll go the whole hog and replace the coils too. Given it fired up on the Easy Start one issue must be fueling. I pulled th...

Márquez's 2024 chances

I wasn't enjoying watching MGP this year until the second half of the season. I wasn't going to renew my subscription but now I'm having second thoughts. Martin's improvement looks like it could make next season much more interesting. Plus there's Binder, Miller will be on his second season and shou...

Re: Engineering group idea - thoughts please

Thanks guys. The damper shaft was just a bit of M8 rod with the ends turned and tapped. The brass pieces were more satisfying as I had to grind tools for the grooves.

Re: Engineering group idea - thoughts please

I found out that my local FE college runs an introduction to engineering evening course: Turning (brass and nylon headed hammer), milling (v-block with clamp) and fitting (small hammer head hand shaped) are covered. I'd have signed up anyway but it was free, so a no brainer. It turned out that the t...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

I tried again to get the damn thing started but still no joy. It turns over fine, I have a spark so the only thing left is fuel right? I haven't got time today to pull the carbs off and check for blockages, have to do that on Thursday. Am I missing anything else?

Re: Timing chain stretched?

Others with more CCT experience will be along shortly but my experience says that's normal and fine. No need for a new chain. The stock engine is in a pretty low state of tune and there's plenty of valve clearance. A half tooth out won't make much of a difference to a stock engine. Sent from my Pixe...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Brought the bike into the garage so I can try and sort the ignition issues without freezing to death. I just stared at it for a while and it felt good.

Re: Reg rec current drain

The reg rec has been replaced under warranty and I've finally got the bike turning over - seems like a combination of old starter solenoid and dodgy jump leads. Now I've got no spark. I'll have to find a day when I can pull the bike out of the shed and into the garage for a proper look at the wiring...

Re: Oberon Clutch Slave Leaking

Short-shifting 1st to 2nd is definitely the best thing with a 'Storm gearbox. 1st is very low; just use it to get rolling.

Re: Oberon Clutch Slave Leaking

Shame they're not serviceable. I have to say I'm surprised. For the sake of an hour or two and a few pence it might be worth pulling it apart and cleaning out the seal grooves. Use new copper washers and maybe you'll fix the leak.

Re: Oberon Clutch Slave Leaking

When you're turning the wheel on the paddock stand is that with the bike in gear? I think that would turn the engine over in 1st or 2nd. It wouldn't necessarily mean the clutch isn't engaged but it'd be with some resistance. Check behind the sprocket cover too. If the clutch pushrod seal or gearbox ...

Re: Reg rec current drain

New starter solenoid on order. The old one was probably there from new so might as well be replaced. Starter checked and all good except I get slightly different continuity readings between commutator bar pairs. Most go down to virtually zero but a few are around four. Checking the same on resistanc...

Re: Reg rec current drain

So after a few attempts to work out what's going on this is where I'm up to: Reg Rec is being replaced under warranty. Milliamp draw means it's not right. I've been through the starter wiring and there's continuity from the starter solenoid to starter and the same to ground. Not sure the later sound...

Re: Reg rec current drain

I forgot about the resistance in the meter. That's 0.4ohm so subtracting that from the alternator reading leaves me in spec. So it's the battery and or RR.
