Re: Clutch lever push rod

Correct, the boot does indeed fit in that groove.

Although that boot is knackered.

Re: tire rubber dust on swingarm chain and rear sprocket

Wow. There's your issue! Not sure why that's happening quite that badly though. Study this diagram and see if this is how you had it mounted (both in terms of the orientation of the flap and which side of the mounting strip it's on). https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/5101451/vtr1000fw-1998-e/rear...

Re: tire rubber dust on swingarm chain and rear sprocket

I had this once and eventually worked out that I'd installed the stock rear mud flap incorrectly. IIRC there are a couple of ways it can be wrong, as it isn't symmetrical and also there's a choice of which side of the mounting tab it's on, and only one is correct. It was only rubbing once my weight ...

Seeing as the bike has 110,000 miles on it I thought to hell with it and have ordered a MOSFET reg rec and a £90 stator from Wemoto. .. will report back ...

Charging fault

Trying to pin down why my charging system isn't working. It's been gradually failing to charge the battery and now isn't doing so at all. Resistance between each of the three yellow wires from the alternator is in spec at 0.5 ohms, but all three show continuity to ground with almost no resistance (i...

Re: bike fouling plugs on hard braking.

What he said. Honda even released a data sheet about this once it became clear that it was an issue (unlike what happened re the camchain tensioners where they denied entirely that there was an issue!).

Re: Dead speedo

I've had to replace my speed sensor twice in 80,000 miles. It's probably more likely to be that than an issue in the meter itself. They're not cheap...I found that Partzilla was the cheapest option even with the overseas postage.

Re: Temp gauge

Mine did this to begin with, and returned more and more frequently. I'd undo the ground on top of the thermostat and clean up the ring connector anyway – no dismantling required and only takes a minute or two.

Re: Gearchange problem

Ah nice one, didn't realise this was what you were describing. Mine did this really badly when I first got it with 29,000 miles on. Took the clutch apart and found that someone had put the judder spring and spring seat in the wrong way round. Rectifying this improved things a bit, plus I fitted new ...

Re: Gearchange problem

Check that someone hasn't adjusted the gear lever such that it's touching the exhaust when pushing down on the pedal. I accidentally did this and it made selecting 1st gear difficult – you could be half selecting it then jumping out of it hence the revs racing etc.

Re: Temp gauge

Mine did exactly this. I thought it was the gauge itself and replaced it, but the issue remained. In the end I tracked it down to the ground for the sender which is the ring connector with a plastic shroud over it sitting on top of the thermostat housing. I cleaned this connector up and the gauge re...

Re: Happy birthday jchesshyre

Thanks all very much! Had a lovely day, even made it out briefly on the bike and then my mum looked after our one year-old while my wife and I went out for a lunch date.

Hope you're all keeping well :D
