Re: shocks that physically fit the storm that could be rebui
Yes a lot of it is close to false economy .. but to spend half the value of your 36k mile 14 yr old bike on a bit of bling generates the challenge. . However im probably going to buy a nitron for the firestorm and look out for a remote preload adjuster to go with it at a later date perhaps ..

Re: shocks that physically fit the storm that could be rebui
The daughtery motorsport link is very interesting though .. pity they are in the states .. i did actually have a go recently in swapping the bottom ends of a spare firestorm shock with one of a spare cbr900 shock (with much more adjustability) i also have .. overall length then was the same as a sta...

Re: shocks that physically fit the storm that could be rebui
Yes i do completely understand all the ramifications however subtle to changing the geometry of the suspension. My understanding is that as the shock absorber is fairly vertical in its position and the top clevis fits vertically and the forces are applied vertically then modifying the top is much ea...

Re: shocks that physically fit the storm that could be rebui
Dont see any difficulty in fabricating a longer mount that drops down the extra twenty or whatever mm to arrive at the top of the replacement shock and retaining the original suspension position. Folk already fit spacers of Six mm etc .. might not be everybodys cup of tea but Im always welding and f...

Re: shocks that physically fit the storm that could be rebui
Thats joined up thinking handy idea that would make me buy their stuff. Quite rare penske stuff is it not .. ill have a look at their prices actually .. are they american ? .. As to the prices .. some people are quoting 150 quid to rebuild configure a mono shock and you can get for example ohlins sh...

Re: shocks that physically fit the storm that could be rebui
Well a shorter shock isnt a problem as the difference can be taken up with a modified clevis at the top. Whats more important is the travel or stroke of the shock is at least as much as standard firestorm shock so full suspension travel is possible. The rest is then surely just a revalving of the in...

Hello
looking for an aftermarket rear shock for my storm rebuild. Ohlins maxton nitron etc preferably with remote adjusters and possibly reservoir. . Anything considered. Decent cash budget on offer. Must be in at least rebuildable condition.
Can pm me.

Re: shocks that physically fit the storm that could be rebui
Always up for buying British .. website certainly paints a good story.. do fancy a remote preload or height adjuster for reason stated by AMQ its a challenge to adjust the standard shock in there ..

Re: shocks that physically fit the storm that could be rebui
Yes that looks handy actually .. the adjusters on a lot of these shocks look to be quite difficult to actually get to and see to adjust .. remote is obviously the way forward so all in that nitron new is about 550 ..!! Good but justifyable ... ???!

Re: shocks that physically fit the storm that could be rebui
Cheers lads .. yes its the simplest thing to do i suppose .. Although always keen to experiment. . Cant see how a lot of these shocks are that different apart from valve internals and spring rates all of which you can get custom made to suit. Maxton do a complete reconfigure service where basically ...
