Re: Stage 2 Cam Valve Springs

Well all good info but what I see as the most important factor here is coil bind. The stocks springs would almost certainly bind with STG 2 cams IMHO. I have this opinion because all the high lift cam options have spec'd replacement springs. Even with big cams, hi comp pistons, head work and whatev...

thatd be great! no idea what the stock ones are.. so nothing to compare to. But there must be some info in the interwebs about spring psi vs lift vs rpm.

Re: Stage 2 Cam Valve Springs

you may also want to look at RC51 (SP-1/SP-2 for our Euro friends) springs. I did some research a while back and noted said bikes use the same retainers (and cotters) as the VTR, which implies their springs should work on a VTR also. As they are designed for cams with increased lift (10.4mm IIRC) a...

Search "stage 2 cams" in the search box up top Chris, lots of info there  Here's one thread. http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=41849&p=456010&hilit=stage+2+cams%2C&sid=b63b76bb30989d5f506e8cd696a61ca6#p456010 I have two sets of Kibblewhite springs...

Re: Stage 2 Cam Valve Springs

Hi, just catching up on things & read this thread. What's the story on the camshafts? These are quite rare & looks as if you've quite a envious find in your possession 8) I bought them from a fella on kijiji (classified site). He said he had planed on building a race bike from parts he reci...

Re: Stage 2 Cam Valve Springs

Good point there. Im leaning toward better springs just in case. As you said, it is common for high reving engines to fail due to valve float. Although I do agree with tony about the stock ones be most likely capable... I may up the revs slightly, but I will wait to see how it works out at the curre...

Re: Stage 2 Cam Valve Springs

thats quite a haul to just find lol :D :D ... im with tony on that, the honda springs seem grand for the job, i take it you will be using the normal rev ceiling ? if your in any doubt i would be giving Roger Ditchfield a call about it, yes, I am using the normal rev ceiling. I may try to get in tou...

Stage 2 Cam Valve Springs

I've just came in possession of some stage 2 cams, H-beam Carrillo rods, and balanced polished crank.. I'm looking for some advice on valve springs. I've found springs for moriwaki from Hpower, but they're very expensive for springs. I'm thinking of buying the performance springs from webcams instea...

Re: Suspension

Heres probably the cheapest option to improve track handling (dives into corners a little easier)... Ive put a 5mm up to 10mm spacer between the rear shock and the top mount...Ive seen that others on the forum have done this as well with good results You could swap the forks with something more trac...

Re: Main and rod brg grades

Well all journals plastigaged and rods seem OK and within limits at an avg 0.0016" but the mains are over the nominal limit at 0.002" although within service limit. I don't have any oil pressure issues I know about but without a gauge who knows? I have yellow and brown shells so can reduc...

Re: main bearing replacement

bummer Chris. Hope the rebuild goes well. More importantly, I hope you don't end up beating my consecutive rebuild record (a frustrating and expensive accomplishment to be sure). While you have it apart, why not port the cases (improve internal airflow) and clean up the heads? hahaha I dont know ab...

Re: Main and rod brg grades

Thanks for that. Did wonder if the play was normal, much like the same gear on Norton's. Have ordered the brgs anyway and the main shaft ones. Utterly confused by the shell bearings, grades and markings on brgs that don't match anything listed....except the colour is of course. I'm going with ident...

Re: Main and rod brg grades

Ok that makes sense, can't say I've looked that close at others. For now wheel silver and lacquer will do. It was scabby. Appreciate your help. I've a couple more questions, on the gearbox found a duff main shaft brg as expected so the effort to strip was worth it....was beginning to wonder :? What...
