Yeah they don't need constant adjustment. If your paranoid check them every 10k but you'll bewasting your time.
As far as I know there are no others from different bikes/ makes that fit.
Honda fit the same part to lots of different models...they still fail.

My first port of call would be try another CDI.
Check all fuses as well, however as you say the dash lights up it wont be the main fuse.
