I went to the local bearing supplier with the old ones.
Total cost of swinger and linkage bearings plus seals was approx $150 Aust!
Money well spent I thought.

My mate tells me that he built it when he lived in Cornwall at a place called Truro(hope I spell...

Like hawk says, do the bearings while everything is apart! The last thing you want is to have to pull it all apart, and also bear in mind that the extra stiffness will more than likely apply extra load to the bearings. I could be wrong on that point, however it makes sense to do them whilst everythi...

Re: Started another job "Bad Move"
Mr Muscle in a spray can is the go. Spray it on, leave overnight. Scrape off all the muck then use varying grades of wet and dry until you get the finish you want. I usually start with 800 and then progress to 2000. Use a good metal polish to finish off. Don't despair at the tarnishing as the wet an...

Re: Started another job "Bad Move"
Hey mate, Oven cleaner is the go. I have used it on many parts including the engine cases. Spray heaps of it on, let it bubble away, leave for 24 hours then hit it with sand paper or a dremmel. Works a treat. Then polish with varying grades of wet and dry, polish and hey presto it's done. Then it's ...

Good luck, be careful, you'll get hooked.
By the way what does SORN mean?
