Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
These intermittent type snags are often tricky to nail down. You have other considerations because of the amount of things that have been done, in addition to reasonable fault examination and diagnosis. If I was approaching this problem cold, I'd say that the symptom was electrical, because of the,...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
I went to start taking my carbs off again just earlier, and on closer inspection my air filter is f---ing filthy! In 17 years of riding bikes I've never really felt a massive difference when I've changed air filters every 12,000 miles, or a small improvement at most. But my current one does have 11,...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
No problem, I appreciate the input! I've checked the fuel tank vent hose and the fuel delivery hoses and they're good. The fourth one is just the fuel tank overflow hose. On my journey home tonight I tried to really get a clear sense of how to describe the issue. What follows may contradict some thi...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
Hi. I'm not sure if this is going to be of any help to you, but my bike recently developed the exact same problem! It was fine, then I changed the front cct, now I have this hesitation occasionally when I open her up. Thing is, I took a chance and only changed the one cct, and I only unshipped the ...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
I'm also wondering whether it's just a brief bit of leanness that I could iron out with an extra washer under each jet needle (currently just have the standard one under each)...although to me with my mediocre/intermediate carb knowledge it feels as if the problem happens as the fuelling is transit...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
The battery wouldn't give rise to the problems you describe. I'd be thinking about the carb vacuum slide lifting side of things. The engine vacuum lifts the slides- that's based on the whole vacuum line and carb diaphragm system being in good order - and the lift holes in the slides. Have you drill...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
Well I've just checked my fuel filter and tap, and both are what I can only call pristine, so they're not the issue. Two rather tenuous ideas have come to mind: 1. I noticed that my RH fuel hose was routed incorrectly, and this is how I've routed it the last few times I've removed the carbs, namely ...
Re: E10 fuel
Thank you for that, apparently super unleaded contains little or no ethanol so there is that option for mowers and the like, and of course my old Landy. All the petrol stations round here (Chester) say E5 on both the premium and super unleaded pumps. Esso through most of the country have ethanol fr...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
Couple of things it could be. 1. At your high mileage the cam chain will have stretched a lot, the cam timing will be out from when it was new, could be close to a tooth out now. 2. Carb needles and emulsion tubes, both can wear causing odd carburation problems. . These are great suggestions but I ...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
That's a shame. My only thought when I first read your post was it could be a sticking carb slide (i've had that in the past) but I see from your last post you have already changed the diaphragms and slides. What about the petrol tank breather. Does the problem appear to be dependant on how much fu...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
Thanks guys. I spoke slightly too soon, although it turns out there are two separate issues. It was dropping out on the front cylinder in the rain and this was indeed water getting into the coil/HT lead interface. Entirely my own stupid fault as mentioned above in that I hadn't put the sleeve right ...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation
Just updating this as I've tracked down the issue, finally. Sometimes it's necessary to spend some time with a problem getting acquainted with how and when it manifests... The cause is a bit embarrassing, but: Recently I replaced my HT leads, and failed to notice that the sleeve over the HT lead nee...
