Temp gauge fault

I have an annoying little electrical issue. My coolant gauge stopped working (needle just moves up the tiniest amount when ignition is switched on), and following the test procedure in the manual I have: 1. Pulled the connector off the thermo sensor and grounded it. Gauge should shoot to max if wiri...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation

I didn't, but yes as you say I've been running the tap manually for the last year or so, until yesterday. Took it for a spin last night with Shell Super Unleaded in and couldn't get it to do the hesitation however hard I tried (sorry officer). But will do more testing before making conclusions and a...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation

Just to update on this... I've just put the bike back together after swapping my carbs with a spare set, because of a seized pilot jet. Same slides/diaphragms as before (although these were previously changed as part of trying to narrow down the hesitation), same (low mileage) needles, new slide spr...

Re: Clicking noise

I find that at certain stages in the chain/sprocket life I get a clicking from the front sprocket as the chain passes round it, when wheeling the bike around, but it's not a problem - last chain and sprocket set I had finally needed changing after 33,000 miles and had made this noise sometimes durin...

Re: Cheaper spark plugs

Interesting link, thanks. They say iridiums can last for 100,000 miles (though in a car I imagine) and also the service interval for the FI Varadero, which had iridiums as standard, is inspect at 16,000, replace at 32,000, yet I can feel a difference when I change them at 8000!! My '97 CB500 also ha...

Re: Cheaper spark plugs

LOL Mac. But, I want to know why the correct ones are correct...why did it need platinum (and now iridium) ones?

Cheaper spark plugs

Anyone used these or know if they could be used? https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-63965-ngk-dpr9ea-9-5329-standard-spark-plug-sparkplug-projected-centre-electrode.aspx I find I have to change the DPR9EIX-9 ones after about 8000 miles anyway, despite claims that they last way longer than this, so seems a...

Re: Fork Rebound Needle Dismantle

I had an MC16 NSR250R which I'm pretty sure had air assisted forks as standard.

Re: Valve clearance adjustment

Although when I do my valves I work within the ±0.03 mm tolerance, in my copy of the manual (which is from this site) no tolerance range is given: https://i.ibb.co/Qj4Js4n/Screenshot-2020-07-19-at-22-40-53.png . The later model addenda are the same, no tolerance range given. The Honda manual for my ...

Re: Happy birthday jchesshyre

Thank youuuuu

Had a nice peaceful day here with the wife and young baby, and got in trouble with her for taking the scenic route home on the bike from the farm shop which made us too late to go for a walk...... :shifty:

Re: Engine Not running smoothly

I'm a bit closer, in Chester. I wouldn't say I know these bikes absolutely inside out but have had one for five years and put 70,000 miles on it, with all work bar tyres done myself, and have worked on bikes for eighteen years so have a fair bit of knowledge. I'd be very happy to have a look once th...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation

On a blast to the local farm shop yesterday I realised that although a new air filter has improved this problem, it's still slightly there. Little hesitation at 7000 rpm. Simce the new air filter did improve but not remove it, I'm thinking perhaps I'm a tad rich on the main jets. Will try going down...

Re: Rejetting of carbs

Rear needle possibly doesn't need an extra shim if using stock needles, since the stock setup already has a slightly richer needle in the rear carb (assuming they're installed the right way round...). Also, there are a tonne of threads on here and on the US site about carb set-up. Because of their s...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation

Fingers crossed it is just the air filter :shh: Yes, all the very best with the new baby when he/she arrives, Chris. Thank you : ) Baby hasn't arrived yet, and I'm very relieved (though embarrassed) to say that a new air filter has sorted the issue! I can't believe I didn't try the most obvious thi...
