The noise was probably why he stuck it on Ebay and was so keen to sell it to me so cheap. It has other minor problems that need sorting such as the cush drive and the head race bearings but all in all a 25k miles bike in really good condition for £1200 isn't half bad. I've come to the conclusion that my rattles are just the way it is meant to be. Got it all stripped out and got as far as removing the clutch plates and it all turns freely and is nice and clean with no signs of damage.
