Hi Nick, Superhawk is my first and only bike. I have 11000 miles on it as today, 1/3 of the miles were riden in twisties. Preload will change is the geometri of your bike, but it will not make the suspension hard of soft unless you change the spring. Like you're saying when you sit down on the bike, the bike drops considerably, and you can compensate this by putting more preload, but this does not make the forks harder...
