Re: Standard Jets ? 1998 Storm
Hi, I’m not sure how to link to other threads, but if you can search using my username for a post on ‘removing choke’ there is a video of a similar problem I had and how it was fixed, including a list of the jets I have.
Hope this helps or that someone (Chris) can link to my post.

Re: Removing choke.
100 miles around the Isle of Wight. What a bike!
I carefully measured the mpg and it’s gone up to 38 too.
It ran like a dream…
Ferry to Yarmouth and coastal paths counter clockwise. It’s not quite the Pyrenees, but there’s plenty of long winding fast corners..
Thoroughly recommend

Re: Removing choke.
I have a pair of the security Torx bolts (holes in) in the TPS on a spare set of carbs. The ones that are in the bike are what I think they call ‘sheer bolts’, set from factory and have to be ground off. There’s nothing to adjust.. I will swap them on further tuning. I have read several people say t...

Re: Removing choke.
Fingers crossed all sorted. In the end, I gave up on trying to find peak revs and just left the pilots at 1.5F 1.75R in an effort to get towards balancing. I know this might not be perfect, but it’s in the middle of the range 1-3. Bike seems happy at this. Then I balanced, which was interesting, as ...

Re: Removing choke.
Hi, the tps still had the factory non adjustable bolts. I did check it anyway and it measured I think 550 so I thought that was close enough? I haven’t balanced the carbs yet this time because I’m struggling with tuning the pilot screw. On the rare occasions when I can get a positive connection on t...

Re: Removing choke.
Right, so the choke went back on. Starts much better. The flutter when you blip at tick over has also gone, so I’m happy that this was likely from a vacuum leak before I tightened up the carb rubbers. I had also switched from 45 to 48 pilots, and the engine revs nicely. The new symptom is this tick ...

Re: Removing choke.
I thought I’d try it anyway, as they are spare parts and I’m now perfecting the art of getting the carbs off and they had to come off again tomorrow anyway. Nothing ventured and all that.. Verdict so far is that you were all correct. Even though I never used choke before and it was always fully clos...
Re: Jetting
Yes, I do try to. The issue with this bike is that I had to buy a second pair of carbs, and on both sets the previous owners have put things wherever they felt like, so I don’t always trust my starting point. The emulsion tubes were the wrong way around. So were the velocity stacks in the airbox. I ...
Re: Jetting
Awesome, thanks Chris. That’s solved it. So the tube that houses the main jet is actually called the emulsion tube. The rear one has the higher number jet as std and the holes furthest from the thread.

Re: Jetting
These ARE the main jets. They have a threaded part which goes in the top, which are marked 170 & 172.
The pilot jets are much smaller and both marked 45.
I do have a Haynes, thanks. I also have a forum with many very knowledgeable people who are willing to save each other time by helping..

Removing choke.
I suspect the choke is an area of vacuum leakage. I’m thinking of closing it off entirely. The bike will never be used in the cold months and at present it’s not needed and actually makes things worse when it’s pulled on. Not to mention the ball ache of getting it back together under the header tank...
Jetting
I have a 170 and a 172 by the looks of it. Very hard to see. Also the main jet tubes are slightly different hole patterns. Same layout and number of holes, just moved along the tube. See pic. Can someone point me in the right direction of which goes with which and where? I’m assuming that the 172 is...

Re: Fuel E10 / E5
Fascinating read. Yes I am a young pup at only 45 🤪 But actually in bike terms, a mere toddler.. I only did my cbt 4 years ago. Bought a Honda cb125.., did the instant access course and then got a Triumph Speed Twin 1200 - which I ride every day. I have very little knowledge about history of bikes -...
