Re: Valve clearance adjustment procedure
Hi All I have developed a spreadsheet to help with working out what shim sizes are required when checking the valve clearances because I don't trust my arithmetic! Not sure how to send to anyone interested as it appears only pictures can be posted. If anyone wants a copy, send me your email address ...

Re: seized clutch slave cylinder
Many thanks for your comments, guys. I was planning to fill the clutch hydraulics from the bottom using exactly that method and have found the value of thread tape on the bleed nipple - when using a vacuum bleeder all it did was suck air through the threads until I taped it up. I've also had to pull...

Re: seized clutch slave cylinder
Update... Had a mate come round to have a look and he's had several Ducatis with hydraulic clutches he's refurbished and showed me a trick for freeing the piston - bang it down hard onto a block of wood to try and displace the piston. Unfortunately, that didn't work but banging it down onto the back...

Re: seized clutch slave cylinder
The other option I thought of is convert to cable using a Varadero sprocket cover. The metal plate between the cover and where it bolts to the crankcase is the same on both models so the mounting holes would line up. Has anyone done this mod? However, a 2nd hand one is dearer than a 2nd hand slave c...

seized clutch slave cylinder
Apologies if this topic already exists but after much searching I couldn't find anything. I took the slave cylinder off as the master cylinder piston was also seized in the bore and fluid totally dried out and assumed the slave cylinder would be in the same condition, as has proved to be the case. I...

Re: Valve clearance adjustment procedure
I, too, am about to adjust the clearances and also undertake the CCT mod on a 1997 VTR of unknown mileage which I believe hasn't run for about 6 years. I got the bike very cheap but its in very tatty condition with clutch and brake master and slave cylinders all gummed up, covered in grunge that wil...

Re: R&G Frame Sliders Install and engine Bolt
I fitted a pair of the R&G frame sliders and had to tap the bolt out with a hammer. It wasn't badly seized but there was a fair bit of corrosion on the bolt. The biggest issues I had was modifying a socket to do up the castellated nut and also getting the bolt supplied in the kit to fit. While n...

ignition control module leaking
Couldn't find anything on the forum so have started a new topic. Hoping someone can help I have just bought a 1997 VTR1000 with the idea of turning it into a race bike. It hasn't run for at least 6 years and is pretty tatty but all there. The ICM and converter unit were unattached form the undertray...

Re: VTR track bike conversion
Wow! That certainly is a lovely looking track bike -well done! And it's a great action shot as well.
Unfortunately, I'm still not able to ride on the track as the bones haven't fused and ned a bone graft so that's me out for the rest of this year as well.

Re: VTR cam chain tensioners
Many Thanks for the advice.
I'd better put it back, then. A pity 'cos it's a pain getting it in and out.
That's why we love working on them

Re: VTR cam chain tensioners
Well, I decided I needed to do the CCT mods while I was replacing the clutch in the off season and discovered, to my horror, I had forgotten to put the little steel caps on the new CCTS I put in the bike last year prior to racing it. This made the calculation of the length of the rod to go into the ...
