Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering (short video P4)

Hehe, thanks, you're making me blush  In other news I created an idle adjustment that you can actually use, sacrificed a dremel flex cable for it and it gave me an excuse to play with the lathe again. http://harriespoor.nl/VTR1000F/Firestorm41.jpg And this was the minimal effort filter in l...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering (short video P4)

Actually the range is less than that, it's more like 75/80 - 99, but at least I'm able to tune idle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYOAUUgDhRg Drove around a bit yesterday afternoon, in t-shirt & normal clothes so not taking any stupid chances (apart from the full throttle run in the beginning...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering (yaay, it runs)

Great work! For the injection data: you use the Ducati Throttles? Maybe you can read out a Ducati ECU for the base injection data set up? Twinfreak  The Ducati uses the Alpha-N system, I'm trying to use speed-density and see Alpha-N as a last resort (on a roadbike, on a racebike, yep, no p...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering (yaay, it runs)

Well, no bueno on the modified valve cover (leaking like crazy, seems to be warped) so I've ordered another one on ebay and I'll use a different cam sensor that doesn't require welding. Also created a filter in lid thingy with a filter I found in my parents garage and the spare lid I had. Sounds ann...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering (yaay, it runs)

That's actually the signal I expected it to take, but it didn't, not even directly hooked up to the function generator & power supply. Might be the tacho is actually kinda fried, but if it works this way, mehhh  The VSS it did take (although I did overguesstimate the pulses/km by a fact...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering (yaay, it runs)

That's actually how I intend to do it as well, find a quiet industrial area, drive up and down a bunch of times trying to get as much data as possible and have megalogviewer sort it out. Full throttle is usually very easy, make a run on a stretch of road in 3rd gear or so, analyze, adjust, do it aga...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering (yaay, it runs)

Excellent news. Keep it up, keep us all posted. Most of this, tbh and in no way am I criticising your write up, went over the old noggin. I am a bit prehistoric and was at the back of the line when technical brain power was being dished out. However the more I read the better and less intimidating ...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering (yaay, it runs)

Managed to do a very short (3-4km) test drive yesterday (I'll update photos later today, can't upload anything @ work) Some observations: - Tuning is obviously needed, the MAP load (vacuum) has a very limited resolution as expected with larger throttle bodies, so I'll see if I can mitigate this with...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering (yaay, it runs)

I have the bottom of a Vfr tank with sender hole if you want it. Thanks, but the bolt pattern is actually the same for the VTR/VFR fuel sender. I might switch to the VFR tank at some point if only for the extra capacity. As said, very impressive work  Have you been able to ride it on the r...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering

Invest some money into an old superbike -> check
Quite a few hours of tedious work and swearing -> check
Carb farts turned into throttlebody farts -> check...

But it's running

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering

My bad. Tried a new browser tab and started at VTR1000.de to be sure. But I got logged in automatically, that's why I saw the pics and you don't. But what's so bad about having an account there to get access to the forum pics ? Apparently nothing as it turns out I already had an account  L...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering

Nice to see someone else approaching this. Says someone who already Microsquirted a RD350 and owns a VTR1000 with a programmable Ignitech ignition. If required you can get the necessary ignition settings here : https://www.vtr1000.de/index.php?thread/78632-ignitech-z%C3%BCndbox/&pageNo=1 Hehe, ...

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering

You mentioned "finding a spot for the electronic fuel pump". I had the same problem when I wanted to fit one. The solution I came up with was to remove the coolant overflow reservoir in the vee of the cylinders, and replace it with a smaller, cylindrical HRC bottle which can sit quite nea...

I think I'll do the stopper mod, it probably won't blow it's guts if it fails and it keeps the tensioner working more or less like it should.

Re: 1997 VTR EFI conversion and other tinkering

Jetting was stock, I only changed the pilots to 48's and removed the ridge in the air filter. Did balance the carbs and adjusted the TPS as well, but that shouldn't have any effect on peak power. It did (rather impressively) lift it's front wheel in 1st gear even with the original 16T sprocket (just...
