Re: VTR Streetfighter DIY route

Made a quick mock up just to see how it looks with the black frame and swingarm - I'm very happy! :D
Is it OK to powdercoat the rear suspension spring, does the paint hold?

Re: VTR Streetfighter DIY route

Got an identical swingarm needle bearing for 13eur and 2 days wait. Treated the bike to new filters and oil. Made two new little filter bits that go in the airbox for the carb diaphragms. http://i64.tinypic.com/2a2gk2.jpg Little by little, the bike's coming together: http://i63.tinypic.com/347tlbo.p...

Re: Hello, torque-loving VTR freaks!

I have done a brief one handed wheelie while saluting another motorcyclist in the coolest way imaginable, but only once... The risk of a tank-slapper is too damn high! Although I have to say the VTR is pretty wheelie-friendly as far as tank slappers go, friend's TL1000S constantly reminds him ...

And just because I love sharing pictures - visiting friends at a hospital makes for great winter wheelie practice

Been tempted to street fighter my VTR before but was always nervous about exposing the side rads.
You needn't be nervous, it looks a bit strange, but good :D And cooling doesn't seem to suffer greatly, at least in normal road use.

Re: VTR Streetfighter DIY route

Here's how the linkages came out after a few coats - lovely! Cleaned up all the bolts (after getting them loose in the first place), ready for a generous amount of lube  Can't wait to see it fully painted and assembled. https://s28.postimg.org/lzl0r3gql/16252523_1451012451600074_35319062308973...

Re: VTR Streetfighter DIY route

That's very observant of you, Dave! I did indeed run off into the grass and nearly sh1t my pants for a whole 3 or 4 seconds until I reached tarmac again  This video doesn't do it justice, 2nd gear is where the fun begins. I would recommend anyone who wants to learn wheelies to first get really ...

Re: VTR Streetfighter DIY route

I find that spending time alone in the garage is like therapy or meditation, just me, a bunch of spanners, some music... One of the best places to be, actually :!:

Re: VTR Streetfighter DIY route

Spent a few hours in the garage today, seems that starting this build-thread motivates me to go ahead and work on the bike :) Removed everything from the frame and swingarm to get them ready for sandblasting and powdercoating. Was afraid that swingarm bearings would be difficult, but they came out O...

Re: Hello, torque-loving VTR freaks!

Well it did take a whole year! :D About the photo - most of you guys are already old and shriveled up, posting pictures of one's self on the internet doesn't do your awesome personalities justice, does it? No offense of course, just a friendly reminder of the winters passed... Have a...

Re: Hello, torque-loving VTR freaks!

baycat - talking about the look, side radiators do look strange. I love that. Talking about the cooling side of things, I was waiting for it to show signs of heating up, but it didn't; The fan only turned on a few times during the summer on extra hot days. I rarely red-line it and never track it, co...

Re: VTR Streetfighter DIY route

Just so everybody feels a bit more comfortable - I can reassemble the bike to look like the first pictures in 1.5-2 hours, I have a full spare rear end, all the front fairings are kept safe inside :D A pre-requisite for my mods was the ability to restore it to it's stock form for when the time comes...

Hello, torque-loving VTR freaks!

As per the title, hello! https://s28.postimg.org/qi3swn1il/IMG_2013.jpg I am Martynas, a 25 year old from Lithuania, a small-ish country in northern Europe. I've had the VTR for a year now, read most of the important stuff in this forum while lurking and preparing myself to choose a suitable VTR. On...
