Re: Recommend a mechanic in east london?

I know a handful of good mechanics in london, one or two out east. If your having any issues i can give you a hand, in SW Just got back home with the carburetors off the bike. I will try to clean the carbs/jets/check the fuel diaphragms another evening when I received the carb cleaner/compressed ai...

Re: Recommend a mechanic in east london?

It sounds like fuel has got through, you need to check your engine oil level, if you have any doubt that it may be more full than it should you need to drain it all out, remove the filter and filler cap and if possible leave it a couple of days for any fuel to evaporate. In fact get the old oil out...

Re: Recommend a mechanic in east london?

22k shouldn't have that sort of problem, A couple of options for you. you put the wrong fuel in (diesel?) although if too much it will stop running. Your fuel tap diaphragm is leaking and some fuel has got past the carb needle valves and settled on the pistons, the smoke would be it burning off. I ...

Re: Recommend a mechanic in east london?

How much oil is it using per 1000 miles ? How many miles on the bike ? If it's not too much then just run it until it gets too expensive on oil, then sell it as spares or repair The blue smoke is a new discovery as of yesterday. Ran it again today to check and it was spewing out blue smoke out of t...

Re: Recommend a mechanic in east london?

It will be an expensive job either way, if the engine has to come out and mounting bolts are seized the price goes up even more, if an engine is £500 then your bill will probably go over £1k, if you have it repaired then there's every chance the bill will be similar or more. You need to accurately ...

Re: Recommend a mechanic in east london?

Sounds like the piston rings or valve stem seals. Get a wet and dry compression test done, which will point you in the right direction. But it might be cheaper and easier to pop in another engine. No, I don't know a good local professional mechanic as I do my own engine work, but am not taking on a...

Re: What's up with the bike? - take two

You should bring it to Grainstorm in May.Somebody there will probably be able to sort it out. Problem this year is that my insurance is about to run out in three weeks time, so now I am thinking whether I will bother to renew it. Question is then if I will attempt to fix the problem myself (althoug...

Next time it does it, open the filler cap.
If you hear a rush of air going in you have a blocked breather.
I've tried that and sadly no change.

I'll look into the other things suggested.

What's up with the bike? - take two

Having had more time with the bike, I'll note down the symptoms that I've noticed in no particular order. Generally speaking they happen all in conjunction with one another and tend to have a range of 'badness'. There have been times where I've done 100 miles without any issues, or even had entire w...

Re: Ignition Coils - which is which?

The most common failure mode is that you start to have issues with being able to rev to the limiter. Then as time goes on the issues move to lower parts of the rev range This is caused by the pulse generator not reading the ignition rotor properly. So you might, again might but because you have tri...

Re: Ignition Coils - which is which?

The problem seems identical to one i had last year, turned out to be very small pin hole in pet rock diaphram, its cheap enough even if yours looks ok, i would change it Steve What were the symptoms precisely? Not sure if you've seen it, but I did check out the diaphragm last year and gave it a wee...

Re: Ignition Coils - which is which?

Well as you have tried everything else and even though it is not how it normally fails I would say it is time for a new pulse generator. Hadn't heard of such thing. Having looked at a few other forums... people tend to mention the ignition fully cutting off as the symptom and having to wa...

Re: Ignition Coils - which is which?

Right... so despite having done nearly 100 miles without any problems since the change. Half way through my commute today, it happened again! Cruising at 30mph I felt a loss of power that lasted a second and then got better. Short while later it happened again and persisted for a while. Throttle wou...
