Re: Bent valves? VTR 1000 cylinder head rebuild service

Maybe should of said I was think of using a bendy metal hose not a rubber one for that reason but if it's to the air box at least I should be able to do it without taking the carbs off again to replace it at a later date if need be. Not going to ride it for a while as no time at the min but eager to...

Re: Bent valves? VTR 1000 cylinder head rebuild service

Thanks Tony got the shim! D day tomorrow! I need to replace a split front breather hose for cam cover (see pic) bikes at a friends house and wanted to pop into halfords on the way. Anyone know the inner diemeter of this hose? And while am asking where does the other end go? http://i1030.photobucket....

Re: Bent valves? VTR 1000 cylinder head rebuild service

Done a bit more tinkering today.... Didnt realise how much rad fluid makes it into the sump when sperationg the cylinder. Dropped the sump today to get it all out and check for debris. Is there any way of avoiding this for anyone else removing the head? I drained most of the fluid before doing it bu...

Re: Bent valves? VTR 1000 cylinder head rebuild service

Whats a vacum hose :D No I dont all hoses are just hanging and the carbs not on yet. Could that cause it to only make that noise on the rear cylinder and not both? Whats bothering me is both cylinders dont make the same noise. I think the penny may have just dropped. I will take a closer look tomorr...

Re: Bent valves? VTR 1000 cylinder head rebuild service

All going well but my gut tells me something is not quite right. Front head on (Thanks Tony) timed up coolent pipe bypassed for now, Manual CCT's fitted (Thanks Bazza) turned flywheel a few times by hand and all feels good on the front cylinder but there is a sound of what I think is an air leak fro...

Re: Bent valves? VTR 1000 cylinder head rebuild service

Thanks Tony :D Will give this a go after I get my gasket, can at least get her running and will prevent any more hold ups. If it causes me an issue in the future I will look into sorting then. I hardly ride my VTR off season now anyway so hopefully wont cause me any drama..

Re: Bent valves? VTR 1000 cylinder head rebuild service

If that's the coolant carb heater inlet or outlet, forget it. Make up a shortcut pipe between the thermostat housing and the water pump housing, ride and forget. I did this ages back when I had a huge airbox fitted and the pipes wouldn't fit easily and had no carb icing at all, ever. And I rode in ...

Re: Bent valves? VTR 1000 cylinder head rebuild service

I wont be permanently bypassing them, however I would like to use the existing carbs once am done with the timing etc just to test start/run the bike before throwing another carb I ve not tested on the bike into the mix. Seen a few carbs on ebay they seem...

Re: Bent valves? VTR 1000 cylinder head rebuild service

not sure if this is a subjest for a fresh post as going a bit off track from the valves! Just having a closer look at my carbs and I discovered a problem. I found a crack where one of the hoses plugs in. looks like its been there a while and running ok up until now! unfortunatly the plug had had she...
