Re: Well you asked for another Ducati build

Things don’t always go to plan… I dropped the speedo and of course the glass cracked. I modified quite a number of RD350 with self made speedo/tach/water temp stickers. One part of the job was to pry open the aluminum ring at the backside with a small and sharp screwdriver. After removing th...

Re: The RD400 drag bike

Pipe building is one of my favorites 😁
For example this is a RD500 set I did some 12 years ago

Re: 1997 VTR not sparklng

If you have access to an oscilloscope, you could measure the signals from the pickup and between ICU and converter. They should look like this when cranking/running: https://www.vtr1000.de/index.php?thread/82875-elektrik-signale-an-der-sc36-firestorm-superhawk-vtr1000f/ (If it doesn't start anyway, ...

Re: VTR 1000 Good for the last hurrah?

You may be old enough to remember Gaston Rahier, multiple Paris Dakar Winner on BMW. He was a rather short dude and the bike was huge, so he developed a special starting procedure. He stood next to the bike with one foot on the peg, then released the clutch and when the iron horse started moving he ...

Re: 2006 vtr1000f spark issue

The later models have an immobilizer system called HISS. For your purpose, you should use a CDI without that fuss. Another possibility is that you didn't notice the VTR actually has 2 "ignition boxes". One that controls the timing (ICU) and the other one actually creating the spark (conver...

Re: Your future post ICE death.

I have electric vehicles since 2017 (mostly company cars). There were Volkswagen eUp, eGolf, ID3 and also an Audi eTron. We even bought an eGolf for family use in 2022. I once even tested a Zero SR/F which was fun but a bit over my budget. From my point of view these cars fit perfectly for people wi...

Maybe more precise than the original shift lever?
Yep, less slack yields to more precise shift operation.

Re: DIY shift lever

Haven't put it on a scale, but it's certainly heavier considering it's made from stainless steel instead of aluminum. Also considering we're not talking about a Moto 3 high end competition bike and the usual VTR rider is kinda "plus sized", these 100g certainly won't affect riding performa...

DIY shift lever

In case anyone fancies a stainless DIY shift lever with roller bearings, the BOM contains - 2 bearings 22x8x7 from Inliner rollers. - 30x2 stainless tube - 20x5 stainless flat bar Use a small lathe to manufacture the bearing seating surface in the tube and a spacer in between. Cut, bend and weld the...

You could still send your original ICU to Ignitech to read out the map.

Re: ignition control module leaking

As it's for a race bike: Ignitech know offers a Plug and Play kit DC CDI P2 for the later HISS models. The box replaces both the a ICU and the converter. The CDI has a build-in quick shifter that just needs a sensor (also available from Ignitech) in the shift rod. https://i.postimg.cc/KKN63fsZ/IMG-2...

Re: Ignition control unit

Well, they have a contact address:
https://ignitech.cz/en/kontakt

Though I have to admit that support quality is not constant. In some cases they were helpful, in others they stopped answering when it got too deep into technical things.
They certainly prefer selling over support, that's for sure.
