Re: Yes, I Really Did Buy It This Way
I think it's very likely that the po has had it apart and tried to see what the damage is. But the damage is not usually more than a couple of bent valves. I think you are right. I talked to the owner at length before I bought it and here is what I am pretty sure happened. The original owner owned ...

Re: Yes, I Really Did Buy It This Way
I replaced the trumpet's cheesey screws with allen heads - and apply a small dab of blue loctite to keep them from mischief. gl_s_r is the man you need to contact for replacements > http://www.superhawkforum.com/forums/technical-discussion-28/new-carb-starter-valve-retainer-29791/ That's a great su...

Re: Yes, I Really Did Buy It This Way
The carb screws are factory loctited secure so more than likely PO has fiddled with em. Should be black plastic tabs on the inlet trumpets that stop them falling out entirely. As for brittle placcy choke fittings > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=29897&p=283763&hilit=...

Re: Yes, I Really Did Buy It This Way
Well, I have the carbs off and as with every bike I have ever had to fettle I have found some interesting things. The screws that hold the air box to the carb were tight on the back carb and loose and sticking out on the front. This could have been a disaster if the bike had eaten one of those screw...

Re: Yes, I Really Did Buy It This Way
As for setting up the valve timing, this link below by Cybercarl will explain how to fit manual CCT's (cam chain tensioners), the procedure will be the same for setting the valve timing regardless to what you are going to be putting back. I wrote one up myself on changing the CCT's before Carl did ...

Re: Yes, I Really Did Buy It This Way
Greetings - Titanium Grey paint (code should be on the subframe under the seat) looks good. As I mentioned over on Superhawk.com make sure you take care resetting the timing when doing the CCTs. Have a good read of the Bike Maintenance and Upgrades/Modifications FAQ inc the downloadable Service Man...

Re: Yes, I Really Did Buy It This Way
hello big jim  sounds like you went into this purchase with your eyes wide open so after a bit of fettling and a few $$,s you will have a decent bike.. I like that grey, we don't see many that colour over here much. just out of interest, if the bike had been a good runner what sort of pric...

Yes, I Really Did Buy It This Way
That's right, my first experience with VTR ownership is with a non-running 2005 Honda VTR1000 Superhawk. I paid $1250 for this one and it comes with a clear title. It has new tires and a new battery. Baring a few scratches the paint looks really good with zero dents in the tank. It has all the light...
