Re: Dented piston, broken valve. Rebuild or engine swap?
Thanks Carl and Tony for the pep rally. It's just myself working on the bike...and its nice to have some technical comraderie. :) Having read the procedure in the manual.. I am missing some tools to remove the clutch, bearings and something else. Would you be so kind to tell me what bits I should or...

Re: Dented piston, broken valve. Rebuild or engine swap?
Hmm Tony, Now that you put it that way, I might actually think about doing the piston replacement. My worry is about all the new tools I'll have/get to buy (and Keep!) and havent gone shopping yet for all the needed bits and pieces. Never done This job before. Any advice IF I choose to replace the p...

Dented piston, broken valve. Rebuild or engine swap?
Hello Lads and Lasses, I thought it was just a faulty head gasket, but when I pulled the front head, I saw this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8czQtda5fzzZHkwcnlJd3JseE9ZNm9sRmdaaFh5QlcyY1Rj/edit?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8czQtda5fzzZHkwcnlJd3JseE9ZNm9sRmdaaFh5QlcyY1Rj/edit?u...

Other than the head gasket, what else?
Before I tear the bike down for a head gasket repair (endless white smokey exhaust!!) ... what else should I order on the parts list? a. Head Bolts grouppo? I'm not sure how many times these head bolts have been used. Are they the torque to yield variety, or can they be safely reused with the holes ...

Re: How to balance your carbs
Just pondering installing the extra plumbing, and I noticed that the factory vacuum connector on the front carb is not there. All I see is a threaded hole. Thinking the previous owner already installed both extra lines and forgot to thread the front one back in, but NO, the rear plumbing is untouche...

Stuck / Spun bolts for bottom fairing. Ugh.
Does there exist a trick for removing the bottom fairing under the oil pan? Mine are stuck and/or spinning in place. Tried some vice grips, but the female side is very cheesy, like mild aluminum. Can't use heat because of the plastic it's holding on. Tried penetrating oil over two days, no luck. Loo...

Re: After carb cleaning, pvlir lesson, wont stay running.??
Hi bleh, Thanks a bundle for the syringe trick..works like a charm ;) Keeping the hose and syringe in my toolbox from now on. Hi tony.mon, Yes, I did. Thanks. Using bleh's vacuum syringe trick ensures that I'm hooking up the vacuum hose to the sternward, rearward connector that points sideways to th...

After carb cleaning, pvlir lesson, wont stay running.??
Hey Lads/Lasses, I've JUST put together the carbs after cleaning everything I could clean. Slow Jets were impassable, main jets were 20% obstructed. Bought new slow jets anyway .. but haven't installed them yet. So, I have my lesson in pvlir training yesterday, but today, in the waning daylight, I D...

Re: Cannot turn engine by hand. Front head install
Solved! Checked that both spark plug holes were indeed uninhabitated, even though there were two plugs on the bench. Okay, so I'm not weak, just dumb. Scratched my head and re-read the whole procedure. The previous technician who worked on the rear cylinder had removed the two 10mm bolts securing th...

Re: Cannot turn engine by hand. Front head install
Front cylinder's valves are all closed, and since the timing chain is off, they should not move at all until the cams and chain are set up. Could this be the resistance I am feeling.

Re: Cannot turn engine by hand. Front head install
Great ideas, thanks to all. Before I tackle it again tonight...here's more info: The rear cylinder has not been worked on at all, I've only removed the cam cover to look at the cams. The timing chain and cams have not been removed. Won't know if the spark plug is still in, until I get home tonight. ...

Cannot turn engine by hand. Front head install
Just trying my front head install after a CCT failure. Head got sent out for repairs and am now trying to reinstall the timing chain/cams. I torqued down the head to the specs, but cannot for the life of me, manage to turn the engine by rotating the 17mm crank bolt by hand. In other words, I don't r...
