Re: What d'ya reckon?

I have openet the pilot screws by 1/4 turn to 2 full turns out. As I suspected, all it has achieved is to make the bike struggle to run when on choke & cold, tickover when warm has reduced - obviously too rich. I really can't see how pilot screws have a significant impact on 3k + running. Off wi...

Re: Ducati 916/VTR trumpet Carb jetting

Wouldn't it be more accurate to compare miles/litre or miles/gallon?
Fuel cost has reduced quite a bit over the last few months making miles/£ wholly innacurate!

You are the first person I've come across who isn't happy with reduced consumption (cost) :)

Re: What d'ya reckon?

I'll probably get a dyno done in due course, however, I feel the 48's are an improvement over the oe 42 pilots.
Will report back with any developments :)

Re: What d'ya reckon?

Ok, left the 48 pilots in, fitted 158/160 mains, needles std 1x .5mm shim. Bike generally feels very good, still a roughness/labouring feeling between 3-3.8k, below 3k & topend is great. This has not addressed the rich 5500-7500 rpm or lean 3000-4500 areas. I feel lifting or lowering the needles...

Re: Lean condition 2000 to 4000 rpm

Hi and thanks for your input :) The bike is a Vara 1000, not a vtr but similar engine/carbs albeit with a softer state of tune/smaller carbs. The bike is nice genuine and unbutchered, low miles (25k), valves plugs etc are all good. Carbs looked untouched & spotless internally when I first remove...

Re: Lean condition 2000 to 4000 rpm

I'm having similar issues with an otherwise stock Varadero with lean bottom & lower mid, rich upper mid & topend thats with mains that are 10 below stock, 48 pilots helped the lower end, smaller mains give a lean hole 4-5k, not sure how much a stock needle can be lifted without leaking fuel...

Re: Lean condition 2000 to 4000 rpm

I am seeking advice from experienced vtr owners. I am an Efi tuner from aus. I have owned my vtr since 2007. All I have done is a set of pipes. I have done a lot of dyno work with several jet combos. The issues I am having is lean condition at low rpm when I roll on throttle say 2000 to 4000 rpm. I...

Re: Ducati 916/VTR trumpet Carb jetting

Hi varastorm, I have been following your bike mods with earnest over on xrv. Regarding the jets, as I posted on here just this morning, don't feck about - stick to genuine Keihin jets (if that is what's in there now). I had a right old runaround a few years ago with some 'replacement' Keihin jets fr...

Re: Carb Tuning guide (setting up a Dynojet or Factory Pro k

If you want to buy genuine Keihin main jets you need to get jet type: KEIHIN 99101-393 The Pilot jet type is KEIHIN N424-21 although there are two fine side hole positions, the rear carb one is much nearer the outlet than the front carb one, Factory Pro supplied ones are different front and rear, a...

Re: What d'ya reckon?

Cheers for the ongoing information guys, I have successfully done a bit with carbs over the years but never had a problem chasing my tail like with this setup, as I inderstood it, pilot screw opening only affected tickover & very small throttle openings, above which the pilot jet size itself too...

Re: What d'ya reckon?

Interesting responses guys :) However, I feel the bottom end (sub 2.5k) is fine & top end (5k+) is fine also. Would pilot screw setting really have a significant affect on 2-3k rpms? With the 158/160 mains the top end was quite rich bar the last 500rpm where it picked up a bit, which is why I re...

Re: What d'ya reckon?

The dyno graph was with 42 pilots - the bike ran ok but felt rough/labouring under load between 2-3 1/2k. Any leaner, no shims etc made the bike cough & stutter under load which is why I've gone 48 pilots & reduced the mains a bit. 2-3k feels better but the cough/stutter has moved to 3-5k he...
