Re: Are we sure my timing is out????? Help please

Thanks all, is making a bit more sense now. But aren't we starving the engine of fuel mix if the cams are 180* out? We're essentially swapping the valves around??!! So, thinking about this ugly scenario and the fact it will still fire at 180* out through the 'wasted spark' (coutesy of hawk ...

Re: Are we sure my timing is out????? Help please

Ok, so I've been reading this thread and the only thing my little mind can't work its way around is the 180* out business. Yes, I can see how it could be out if someone has miffed the cams about but I can't see for the life of me how it would still be ride-able at 180* out... That to me would imply ...

Re: Various parts.

On a tight budget for the next few weeks but like the looks of a few bits. This reply has two purposes, 1- Easier to follow through my profile and 2- to inquire as to whether you will keep the thread updated with parts that are sold so I know not to nag you for something you don't have anymore when ...

Re: Damn misfire....

Really enjoyed this thread. Nearly half way through, my suggestive thought was to take both fuel lines from carbs and insert to clear bottles, using a syringe to control the petcock to check the flow... then I started changing my mind when reading the tests that have been carried out, especially wit...

Re: Which Impact Wrench/Rattle Gun to Get

I've borrowed a Makita impact wrench a few times off my mate and I thought it was the mutts nuts. So much so, I have every intention of purchasing one when there's cash freed up. http://www.screwfix.com/p/makita-btd146z-18v-impact-driver-bare/37531 Thing is, think the batteries are the bulk of the c...

Re: any advice? about to swap my flywheel

Mass and weight are not the same as you can have greater mass but less weight and the other way around . Technically correct as in an object in deep space is weightless but has considerable mass. The biggest difference(?) being the effect of gravity! In terms of the thread though, I would assume 'w...

Re: any advice? about to swap my flywheel

So as a question is there a limit to how much weight I can remove or will it all be a advantage? Yes, there would be a limit as there is with anything. The more material you remove, the 'weaker' the component would become... At the end of they day (it gets dark  ), you still have a rotating m...

Re: any advice? about to swap my flywheel

This is almost my cup of tea... at least, it's the type of stuff I'm studying! Lightening the flywheel (or not) comes in to the category of inertia or, moments of inertia to be more precise. Simply put, MoI (or just I) is a direct relation to the torque required to produce an amount of angular accel...

I'm interested to see what comes of this... could hear the 'slapping' noise straight off. Hope it doesn't get any more serious than perhaps a dodgy spring for you.

Re: THE OLD CAM CHAIN TENSIONERS..

So Bleh, what's your view on doing the stopper mod? (:-}) If you don't want your trousers to fall down, wear a belt. If you really don't want them to fall down, put braces on too! :cool2 Only reason I didn't do it when I changed mine was because I 'forgot'. Why the Japanese didn't think to d...

Re: THE OLD CAM CHAIN TENSIONERS..

I've heard pro's and cons for both manual and auto. Personally, I've stuck with the auto ones and have recently changed them w/out a stopper mod (let the lecturing begin...)! I've heard of manual ones being forced out of position (most likely due to incorrect installation), not necessarily in a VTR,...

Re: halal meat....

My 2p worth as someone who has killed a few animals (large and small) in my time. I grew up on a farm, and my family are still hill farmers in scotland. My old granny used to say if you arnt prepared to kill it don't ask to eat it! And I almost full heartedly agree except for the part that I've nev...

Re: halal meat....

Truthfully, when it you compare the way we slaughter an animal to the way halal is achieved, you'll see there's no great difference. We slaughter over 2 million cattle a year, cattle which has been transported to a strange place, taking to a new indoors and prodded into a booth where some strange bl...

Re: Why Is this forum so great...

Appreciative bikers... In other words, genuine people who share a passion for bikes. At 32, I hope I'm not classed as older generation (yet) but one thing I have always admired is honesty, dignity and respect (unless you're a complete and utter juggler who deserves no more than you provide). Here, I...
